Burial Rites: A Novel by Hannah Kent (audiobook)

Heavy

This historical novel set in the 1800's is, well, depressing to the point of tedium.  Yes, the main character is convicted of murder and sentenced to be beheaded.  No, she didn't "really" do it and, of course, no one believes her.  Yes, everyone hates her, etc....  So; happy-happy-joy-joy should not be expected but there is just no break in the atmospheric darkness.  I get it, I guess, but it ended up distracting from the story which would have been actually quite interesting.  Three stars for the story.
